in Celebration of the 30th Anniversary of SHSID
"Musical Technicolor", a Shanghai High School International Division Concert was held on the evening of September 28, 2023, at Shangyin Opera House, to celebrate SHSID's 30th anniversary. This concert was not only a tribute to the 30-year history of SHSID but also an important showcase of its distinctive approach to arts education.
Over the past thirty years, SHSID, founded in 1993, has made remarkable progress. As a unique Chinese-managed international school, it has focused on integrating Chinese and foreign cultures, establishing an advantage in arts education under the principle of "harmonious development in one school with two divisions." While adhering to the characteristics of Chinese education, SHSID has also drawn inspiration from international art education concepts. Through curriculum, clubs, and activities, it has cultivated comprehensive artistic literacy, continuously contributing to students' overall development. This journey has paved the way for an art education teaching style characterized by "integration of Chinese and foreign cultures, diversity, and innovation."
The SHSID 30th-Anniversary Concert featured student art clubs from all grades, ranging from grades 1 to 12. The program encompassed various forms of art, including vocal music, instrumental music, dance, drama, musicals, and original music. These performances not only showcased the students' excellent artistic skills, individual potential, and teamwork spirit but also highlighted SHSID's marvellous art education style emphasizing the integration of Chinese and foreign cultures, diversity, and innovation.

The concert began with a brass band performance of "Ode to the Red Flag" and "Romantic Charme of Pentatonism," which displayed the grandeur and unique national musical styles of Chinese culture, demonstrating the deep influence of Chinese culture in the music education at Shanghai High School. In addition, the folk dance "Memories of the Lane" vividly recreated the playful scenes of old Shanghai alleys, expressing the students' emotional connection to the city. The drama "The Last Lesson" portrayed the story of Chinese educators with fluent Chinese and celebrated the dedication of Chinese educators. Shanghai High School places a strong emphasis on cultivating an elegant campus artistic atmosphere and advocates for the innovation and radiance of artistic activities. It actively introduces high-end international art exchange activities and strives to provide diverse art platforms for students. In addition to annual events such as art festivals, drama festivals, and instrumental and vocal music competitions, the Performance Season, initiated since 2019, particularly draws inspiration from the models of higher professional art schools in its design philosophy. It provides students with a high-level, quasi-professional performance stage in ten different artistic categories, with nearly a thousand participants in each edition, achieving efficient synergy and integration between classroom and extracurricular activities.
The concert provided students with a more professional and extensive stage for their artistic expression, serving as an extension of in-school artistic activities. It also served as a presentation and report of the achievements of art education at Shanghai High School to the wider society.
