When Science Meets Business

 See How 10th Graders Master

“Science Entrepreneur Alliance Project"!

At the beginning of the semester, the high school economics and business department teamed up with biology, chemistry, and physics to launch the large-scale interdisciplinary “Science Entrepreneur Alliance Project” for 10th graders. This innovative initiative, guided by the philosophy of "Science as the Foundation, Business as the Wings," empowers students to leverage STEM knowledge to identify real-world problems and design entrepreneurial solutions that are both scientifically sound and commercially viable. Participants not only apply scientific principles to develop product prototypes but also analyse cost-benefit models and craft marketing strategies, experiencing the full cycle of transforming technological innovation into market-ready ventures.

The project adopts a groundbreaking "Cross-Class Teaming + Dual-Mentor Guidance" model, where students freely form interdisciplinary teams, each supported by both an economics teacher and a science teacher. From naming their startups and designing logos to product development, students immerse themselves in an authentic entrepreneurial simulation.

After the first round of preliminary screening, 21 teams advanced to the rapid "Speed Investment Pitch" round. During lunch breaks on April 24th and 25th, groups showcased their ideas in the exhibition hall, competing for votes from peers and faculty. The presentations highlighted remarkable creativity and problem-solving skills: The "Health Monitor" team addressed modern wellness needs by developing a portable device for real-time glucose and creatinine level tracking; "Green Living" championed sustainability with fully biodegradable plant-based candles and eco-pencils; "Energy Rebound" innovated smart fitness equipment that converts kinetic energy into reusable power; another team embraced circular economy principles by crafting apparel from recycled coffee grounds; meanwhile, "Meridian Care" blended traditional Chinese acupuncture with modern tech to create post-workout recovery therapies. Several teams even produced physical prototypes—proof of their ability to turn ideas into tangible innovations!

After intense competition, teams excelled in areas like customer insight, technological innovation, sustainability, and service design. Four finalists emerged for the Angel Investment Pitch, with products tailored for seniors, plant enthusiasts, skincare consumers and health-conscious eaters. These teams will refine their products and business plans for the grand finale on June's MIX Day. We look forward to hearing real-world entrepreneurs' and investors' verdict on our students' startup concepts.

Science teaches us to ask "why?"—entrepreneurship pushes us to ask "why not?" This project redefines learning boundaries, nurturing students into frontier explorers who tackle real-world complexities. Stay tuned as these young innovators continue to break moulds and shape the future!
